To honor artisans and preserve traditional crafts

 In recent years, activities of artisans and craftsmen in the province have been maintained and developed, contributing to increasing production value, creating jobs for local workers, preserving and developing traditional crafts and villages.

 Recognize and praise

Binh Duong is known as the cradle of handicraft villages in the South, such as lacquer, carving, sculpture, ceramics, piggy banks, rattan and bamboo weaving, incense production, rice paper, wooden clogs... Along with that, new professions such as ornamental plant cultivation are increasingly developing. The crafts have been creating valuable art works, contributing to preserving and developing traditional crafts and villages of the province.

In order to recognize, praise and honor the contributions of artisans, craftsmen, people bringing new crafts to Binh Duong province, Provincial People's Committee issued Decision No. 42/2015 / QD-UBND dated Sep 30th 2015 defining the subjects, standards, processes and procedures for recognition of titles "Artisans of Binh Duong province", "Excellent craftsmen of Binh Duong province", "Persons bringing new crafts to the province" in the province. Accordingly, Rural Development Office is the standing body of the recognizing council of these titles in the province. The recognition is conducted every 3 years.

Nguyen Phong Huy, Director of Rural Development Office, said that in 2023, the office coordinated with economic offices of districts, towns, cities, and industry associations to implement Decision No. 42; advise Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to propose Provincial People's Committee issues Decision No. 2228/QD-UBND dated August 31, 2023 on consolidating the Council for recognition of these titles. The Provincial Council for title recognition received 12 individual applications, of which 11 applications for recognition of the title "Artisan of Binh Duong Province" and 1 dossier for recognition of the title "Excellent craftsman of Binh Duong Province". Individuals applied to the Provincial Council to evaluate works of high artistic level to qualify for recognition as artisans and excellent craftsmen.

Le Van Ngoc (My Phuoc ward, Ben Cat town) created high value from ornamental plants, with many types of trees.

As a result, 11 profiles were recognized as "Artisans of Binh Duong province", 1 profile was recognized as "Excellent craftsman of Binh Duong province". The proposed titles for recognition are in crafts, like: ornamental plant cultivation, ceramics, and growing and caring for orchids. This is the recognition and to do honor to artisans and craftsmen who have been dedicating their wisdom, talents and efforts to creating unique handicraft products with high economic value, to fulfill consumer and export demands. At the same time, to restore, maintain and preserve the quintessence and values of craft villages, enhance the reputation and brand name of craft villages during the integration process," Huy added.

 Pham Van Bong, Director of Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development: Recognizing artisans and excellent craftsmen in Binh Duong province plays an important role to recognize, praise and honor the contributions of artisans and craftsmen who are devoting their talents, intelligence, and efforts to the restoration, preservation, and development of traditional trades and craft villages in the province. This is also to meet the wishes of artisans and craftsmen, continue to maintain and develop traditional professions, actively transmit the professions to the younger generation, restore traditional professions and attract new professions to the locality.

Continue to preserve and develop

The recognition of the titles "Artisan of Binh Duong province", "Excellent craftsman of Binh Duong province", and “Person with merit in bringing new occupations to the province” plays an important role in recognizing, praising and honoring contributions of artisans, craftsmen, and people who have contributed to bringing new professions to the locality; encourage talented artisans and craftsmen to continue to maintain, promote career development and attract new professions to the province, restore lost traditional professions, and contribute to creating jobs for local workers. .

Huy said that the recognition is intended to encourage artisans and craftsmen to continue to maintain and promote career development and attract new professions to the province, restore traditional occupations that are fading away, actively transmit traditional crafts to the younger generation, preserve local cultural identity. Activities of fine artisans and craftsmen have created jobs for local workers, developing traditional professions and craft villages. This is the force that is contributing to preserving and developing reputation of traditional products, attracting tourists to craft villages in the province.

It can be affirmed that the attachment and dedication to art, being honored, recognition of their workmanship are the motivation for artisans to keep creating, maintaining, developing crafts of Binh Duong.
