Import and export value increase

In February 2020, due to the Tet holiday, export turnover decreased by 27.2% MoM and 1% YoY. However, the cumulative export value in 2 months increased 29.6% YoY. Accordingly, import turnover decreased 47.7% MoM and decreased 22% YoY, yet import value also increased by 16.1% YoY. Currently, main export markets of Binh Duong enterprises are the United States, Europe, China, Japan and South Korea.

According to Phuoc Boi Quyen, Director of Tan Nhat Company (expanded South Tan Uyen Industrial Park), since the end of 2020, wood manufacturing industry has made a breakthrough again due to orders from their conventional customers and expand to add new customers. Therefore, up to now, the company has sustained production, export and good growth compared to the same period last year. Like many other companies in the same field, Tan Nhat Company strives to guarantee product quality and reputation to maintain and expand to the US market.

Recently, General Department of Customs has announced an impressive figure of the wood industry. In 2020, with the total export value of more than 12 billion USD, Binh Duong continued to be the largest wood exporter of Vietnam with a value of 5.68 billion USD, accounting for over 47.3% total value export of the whole industry. With continuous efforts, wood companies have made proud results. The wood industry maintained high export value, sustained stability in production and export, looked for new products to conquer major markets, and quickly won international customers thanks to e-commerce.

According to leaders of Binh Duong Furniture Association, in 2021, the goal of wood industry is to sustain growth rate, export value and surpass 2020 results. To achieve this goal, it requires good preparation, difficulty solving from the trade war between the US and China, adapting to new conditions of the COVID-19; to clearly identifies trade frauds and origin of goods, creating new resistance. Phuoc Boi Quyen said that the current challenge for wood industry was that besides solving well internal resource problems, such as raw materials, quality of planted forests, high specialization, enterprises needed to speed up investment in advanced technologies, meeting international standards. It is also necessary to control issues of origin of goods, prevent third parties from taking advantage of Vietnamese brands to cause damage to the industry.

Opportunities for SMEs

Dr. Vu Tien Loc, Chairman of Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), assessed that at present opportunities are expanding for enterprises. Previously, import and export activities in general were only for large-scale enterprises with strong financial potential. They almost become big brands thanks to import and export. On the other hand, thanks to import and export, they dominate many business sectors. Currently, cross-border e-commerce has completely changed this trend. Micro, small and medium-sized enterprises have an equal opportunity to reach global trade.
