Trade surplus with France hits US$0.63 billion

Vietnam-France trade turnover in August was estimated at US$2 billion, of which Vietnam’s exports accounted for US$1.27 billion.

According to Vietnam Customs’ statistics, France is one of Vietnam’s largest trade partners, and fourth biggest European suppliers of goods. The French market is also Vietnam’s sixth biggest importer of goods in Europe.

In the first eight months of this year, Vietnam’s exports to France fetched over US$1.27 billion, representing a slight increase over the same period last year. Among its key export items were electronics, footwear, telephones and spare parts.

Vietnam imported more than US$0.68 billion worth of products, mostly pharmaceuticals, transport vehicles, machines, accessories and steel, down 27 % year on year.

As a result, Vietnam had a trade surplus of US$0.63 billion with France.

Vietnam Customs said two-way trade turnover grew steadily in the 2008 – 2012 period. In 2010, Vietnam’s exports to France saw a sharp increase of 35.6% compared to 2009, with trade surplus reaching US$0.13 billion.

Last year, two-way trade turnover between Vietnam and France hit US$2.16 billion, a year-on-year increase of over 30%, placing France fourth among Vietnam’s largest markets in Europe and 15th in the world.

Vietnam’s total imports from the French market were valued at US$1.6 billion, up 31.9% compared to the previous year’s figure.
