Traditional trades attract workforce in the year-end

Many traditional craft villages are starting their maximum operation to launch products into market in the year-end.

Wooden shoe production in Thuan An town attracts many women in the year-end.

This time is a good chance for hundreds of rural laborers, especially women, old people and more to increase their income for Tet shopping.

Craft villages need workforce

Incense production village in Di An town in the last months of this year always bustle with sound of production machines and tools. On the ordinary days, these incense production factories have only 10-20 workers but in the year-end, they attract about 100 laborers.

Nguyen Minh Tri, the owner of incense production workshop in Binh Minh II quarter, Di An ward said in order to ensure delivery for Tet holiday, I have to rent more 10 workers for seasonal jobs. Both machines and human resources must work maximum. On average, my workshop produces about 200-300,000 incenses.

Meanwhile, traditional trades of producing piggy banks and cutting boards have penetrated into Thuan An town since 1970. After a long time, the two trades return with remarkable results. Many small traders arrive these craft villages to purchase products. Especially, Lai Thieu cutting board is exported to Indonesia, Malaysia, China, China, Laos, Korea, the US and among others while Lai Thieu piggy bank is exported Laos, Cambodia, Thailand.

Dang Van Tai, the owner of Cong Danh cutting board workshop shared “On the ordinary days, my workshop needs only about 20 workers but in the year-end I have to recruit more laborers to meet export demand. Recruiting seasonal laborers both helps craft villages timely meet delivery and assists laborers to increase their income”.

On the days near Tet holiday, demand on workforce at craft villages becomes increased, helping rural laborers improve their income. The number of seasonal workforce depends on production capacity of workshops. Many workshops need more 20-30 seasonal laborers to meet orders for Tet holiday.

Le Ba Linh, director of Tu Bon Co.Ltd., specializing in producing lacquer painting at Tuong Binh Hiep ward, Thu Dau Mot city said that in the year-end his workshop has many orders, so lacquer workshops face difficulties in recruiting laborers. Therefore, these workshops recruit many workers right from May. With this way, lacquer workshops can actively produce products in service for orders.

Joy of welcoming Tet holiday

In the year-end, craft villages’ workforce recruitment helps many people improve their income on Tet holiday. Thach Thi Ve in Di An town said she often works at Dai Loan incense workshop in the year-end. She can earn more than VND10mil within 2-3 working months.

Like Mrs. Ve, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Lam, a seasonal worker at Phu An paper cake in Ben Cat town said that with a small income from seasonal jobs she can purchase new clothes for her children on Tet holiday.

Jobs at craft villages are easy relatively, lasting about 8 hours per day with wage of 80,000-150,000 per day. Most of seasonal laborers are women and old people.

Le Ba Linh added “In the year-end we only recruit female laborers because young men work away from home or work at industrial parks with their stable jobs. Therefore, craft villages often admit women and old people”.

The traditional craft villages not only create income for rural laborers but contribute to help traditional products fly away. As such, traditional craft villages in Binh Duong continue to hold firm positions.
