Nguyen Van Ty is well-known as a typical farmer with the model of growing mangosteens in Dau Tieng district’s Thanh Tuyen commune. He has so far spent nearly 15 years on developing this kind of plant.
In 2000, he bought 1.5 hectares of land in Thanh Tuyen commune’s Suoi Cat hamlet. He decided to plant 250 mangosteen trees on more than 1 hectare of land in 2006 after careful research. Thanks to his efforts plus provincial Agricultural Promotion Center’s technical support, his mangosteen orchid reached good development with the total output of one ton worth VND30million in 2011. And then, he set up a clean production process and was granted the Vietnamese Good Agricultural Practice (VietGAP) certificate.

Ty and his mangosteen orchard
In 2013, his mangonsteen booth won second prize at a southern safe and delicious fruit contest held at Suoi Tien tourist zone. He also continuously grasped many high prizes on mangosteens in the following years, contributing to promoting Binh Duong’s mangosteen trademark.
Despite bad weather, his mangosteen orchard was still good last year. Each hectare of mangosteens herein reaches the average output of 6 tons-8 tons with the selling price of around VND40,000-VND50,000, bringing the income of hundreds of millions to his family.
Provincial Agricultural Promotion Center has also decided to use the model as a tentative point for planting mangosteens under VietGAP standards in Thanh Tuyen commune.
