Binh Duong province has attached special importance to fostering urban agricultural models, aiming to be line with the local industrialization and modernization process. From the local policies plus the efforts by farmers, the province’s urban agriculture has reached vigorous development.
High efficiency
Mai Quoc Thai, the owner of a Dendrobium orchid farm in Dau Tieng district’s Minh Hoa commune, one of the Southeastern region’s largest orchid farms said that his 6-hectare orchid farm can secure the annual profit of nearly VND4billion while creating stable jobs for 20 laborers.

Or, Khai Yen vegetable sprouts farm of nearly 1,000 square meters in Thu Dau Mot city’s Phu My ward can also reach the annual profit of around VND3billion. The farm now generates jobs for 8 laborers with the average salary of over VND7million per person per month. The farm’s trademark is granted by the Intellectual Property Department under the Ministry of Science and Technology with many products consumed nationwide. The farm has so far also developed 5 branches in provinces and cities across the country with around 2 tons of products consumed daily.
The province’s speed of industrialization and modernization has occurred very quickly. Along with advantages, the province has faced disadvantages from the process. The province has also put forward many measures to improve the process’s disadvantages. And urban agricultural production is very indispensable to the province in the current context towards sustainable development. That’s reason why the province has fostered a variety of effective urban agricultural models in a short time.
Towards sustainable development
Over the past time, provincial Party Committee and People’s Committee implemented a lot of programs, plans to promote the local urban agriculture. As of now, provincial Development Investment Fund has considered and said ok to providing 70 plans on agricultural production from individuals and organizations with more than VND300million in loan.
Possibly seeing, the province’s support policies are seen as a lever for the local urban agriculture. Huynh Van Khai, the owner of Khai Yen vegetable sprouts farm said that thanks to preferential loans from the province’s agricultural support program, he has bravely expanded his orchid farm to 6 hectares.
Mai Hung Dung, member of provincial Party Standing Committee, Permanent Vice-Chairman of provincial People’s Committee said that although agricultural production only accounts for a small proportion in the local economic structure, the province has paid more attention to fostering this field. So far, the province has carried out many policies and promulgated 2 resolutions on hi-tech and urban agricultural development.
According to provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DoARD), the province’s total urban agricultural area has till now amounted to nearly 172 hectares and there are now 433 pigs-breeding households under the urban agricultural model with high-economic efficiency. Pham Van Bong, Director of provincial DoARD asserted that the province’s support policies have created favorable conditions for the local urban agriculture to develop.
