Urban face developed, living standards improved

 During 2016-2020, with the goal of "To develop Binh Duong urban center towards civilization, prosperity, and improved people's lives", Binh Duong city is developing in the right direction, enhancing socio-economic growth. It is expected that in 2020 the urbanisation rate of the province would reach 82%.

 Urban face to be upgraded

Over the period 2016-2020, the management of urban development was reviewed, adjusted and supplementing in accordance with the socio-economic growth. In this period, Binh Duong completed the upgrade of urban type on schedule. In 2017, Thu Dau Mot was lifted from class 2 to class 1, Thuan An City and Di An city from class 4 to class 3. The two northern districts were recognized to reach urban criteria of class 5, including Lai Uyen in Bau Bang District, Tan Thanh in North Tan Uyen District. In 2018, Ben Cat and Tan Uyen were from class 4 to class 3. In 2019, Tan Binh n North Tan Uyen District was recognized reaching class-5 urban criteria. Besides, the province has implemented a scheme to upgrade administrative units from town to city for Di An, Thuan An. In 2020, Tan Binh will be upgraded from commune to  town. The province will also the procedure for recognition of Lai Hung in Bau Bang District and Thanh Tuyen in Dau Tieng District to meet class-5 urban criteria.

Binh Duong has now one class-1 urban (Thu Dau Mot); four class-3 urban (Thuan An, Di An City; Ben Cat, Tan Uyen Town); five class-5 urban under commune (Dau Tieng, Phuoc Vinh, Lai Uyen, Tan Thanh town; Tan Binh). Also in 2020, the province will complete the upgrade of class-5 urban, establish Thanh Tuyen and Lai Hung town.

In 2019, the province's urbanisation rate reached 80.17%, in 2020 would reach 82% (expected) after the establishment of new urban areas (the percentage of the country's urbanisation was projected to reach 39.2% in 2019). The urban planning work was implemented, general planning, zoning planning, new rural construction of the province reached 100%.  At present, localities continue to review, adjust and supplement in accordance with the socio-economic development situation in each period.

To improve the life quality

In recent years, Binh Duong has well carried out public health care through the investment of medical projects, equipment and staff funded by State and socialization budgets. Up to now, 100% communes, wards and townships have reached the national health criteria. The private health system has developed strongly, many modern equipment and high technologies have been employed to serve medical examination and treatment of people. The health authorities implemented many high technologies in medical examination and treatment. Provincial General Hospital was recognized as a first-class hospital and received many high-tech transfers from the satellite hospital project of 4 Central hospitals, making a significant contribution to medical examination and treatment for people in Binh Duong and neighboring provinces.

Besides, the province also constructed works to improve the quality of education. The whole province now has 8 universities; 1 center of foreign language informatics - professional training; 71 centers and 20 branches of foreign languages, information technology, cultural fostering and university exam preparation; 3 centers for integration supporting education; 6 life skill education training centers licensed.

Binh Duong develops economy in combination with social justice through social welfare programs that were implemented synchronously and effectively. Recently, the province has implemented social welfare policies, settled and paid regular social allowances, health insurance for the poor, the elderly, and low-income and disadvantaged people. The province approved a project of supporting people with meritorious services in accommodation and housing with the aim of expressing gratitude.

In order to meet the housing needs of workers in industrial parks, over period 2016-2018, Binh Duong attracted about 86 social housing development projects with a total land use area of about 199.77ha, equivalent to 3.9 million m2 of floor construction. In which, there were 43 projects of Becamex social security housing project with about 3 million m2 of housing floor and 141.4ha of land to build houses for workers in Thu Dau Mot, Ben Cat, Tan Uyen, Bau Bang... This is a model to develop social security houses based on clean land fund with preferential sale prices suitable for low-income workers.

Nguyen Hoang Vu, Deputy General Director of Becamex IDC, Chairman of Binh Duong Real Estate Association, said that Becamex social housing - workers' housing project was directed by Provincial People's Committee as well as departments, branches in the province, especially received positive feedback from public opinion. In fact, thousands of workers, low-income people have bought, rent and settled down.

According to the approved Binh Duong Housing Development Plan 2016-2020, the social housing development target is 2 million m2 of floor area. So far, the province has invested 1.3 million m2 of floor, reaching 65% target (including social housing, worker housing).
