Early May 18, the Secretariat of the Party Central Committee held a conference to implement the Politburo’s Resolution No. 06-NQ/TW dated January 24, 2022 on planning, construction, management and sustainable development of urban areas in Vietnam to 2030, with a vision to 2045.
The conference was held in the form of direct and online combination. Vo Van Thuong, Politburo member, Permanent member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat; Tran Tuan Anh, Politburo member, Head of the Central Economic Commission; Nguyen Trong Nghia, Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Party Central Committee's Commission of Propaganda and Education; Le Van Thanh, Deputy Prime Minister co-chaired the conference. In Binh Duong, it was attended by Nguyen Hoang Thao, Permanent Vice-Secretary of provincial Party Committee; Vo Van Minh, Vice-Secretary of provincial Party Committee, Chairman of provincial People's Committee and leaders of departments, agencies, sectors and localities in the province.
At the conference, Mr. Anh said that the resolution sets out the overall goals of accelerating the speed and quality of urbanization, developing a sustainable urban network, forming up a number of urban areas, smart dynamic urban chains connecting with the region and the world. Institutions and policies on urban planning, construction, management and sustainable development have basically been completed. Urban infrastructure, especially framework technical infrastructure and essential social infrastructure is built and developed synchronously and modernly. Economic growth in urban areas is fast, efficient and sustainable. The quality of people’s life in urban areas is high, ensuring to meet the basic needs of housing and social infrastructure for urban residents. Addressing the conference, Mr. Thuong spoke highly of speeches from provinces and cities across the country. Sustainable urban development is a regular and important task of the whole political system, soon setting up an action plan to implement the resolution with a specific roadmap, supplement and concretize criteria, targets pertaining to the resolution by each year, by each period of relevant sectors and localities. Besides, it is very important to improve the application and method of urban planning, ensuring that urban planning must have a long-term, synchronous and modern vision while taking people and quality of life as the center, urban culture and civilization as the foundation for development, perfecting institutions and policies to facilitate the process of urbanization, urban planning, construction, management and sustainable development.
