Using green products helps protect environment

The 1st campaign 2011 of green consumption month, held in the province, ended after one month of launching and mobilization. Binh Duong Newspaper talked to Co.opMart Binh Duong director Vo Huu Thach about the campaign.

This is the first year Co.opMart Binh Duong in cooperation with the local department of Environment and Natural Resources implements a month for green consumption. Could you tell about result of the campaign?

Together with SaiGon Co.op chain, month for green consumption in Binh Duong took place over one month and was held independently. Possibly speaking, the month for green consumption created good impressions on customers with increase of green product users. However, owing to the larger number of shoppers at Co.opMart Binh Duong, 7,000 environmentally friendly bags were granted rapidly to shoppers within the first 2 weeks of the campaign.

Co.opMart will use environmentally friendly bags in the fourth quarter.

This makes us set out many significant policies to encourage customers to use green products. This is one of crucial factors to help them use safe and quality products from businesses.

What assessment could you have about businesses participating in the campaign?

Many businesses involved in the campaign. They supported promotional products or hundreds of discounted items. There were 14 businesses participating in the campaign. Their green products included various items such as cosmetics, foodstuff, vegetable…

How did the campaign impact on customers?

This year customers show their great response on the campaign. Accordingly, sales increased over 15% during the campaign.

What will Co.opMart chain do to help customers use safe and quality products from businesses?

One of significant deeds under the campaign of “Co.opMart makes efforts to protect environment” include responding earth hour, using environmentally friendly bags… have reached remarkable results.

At present, 21 supermarkets of the chain in the HCMC have launched usage of environmentally friendly bags. However, owing to restrictions, we have yet to use the bags in the province. In the coming time, we will use environmentally friendly bags to replace nylon ones.

To mobilize and encourage customers, functional agencies should spur promulgation on environmental protection and disseminate harmful effects of nylon bags. In addition, by concrete deeds from businesses, retail shops, functional agencies and customers’ awareness will be one of measures to improve and clean environment.
