‘Safe’ vegetables are planted under project of “building up regions producing safe vegatables in Binh Duong Province from 2010 to 2012” covering 5 hectares of land in Tan Uyen. Besides, in Uyen Hung of Tan Uyen, the areas are expanding to 20 hectares where 21 household producers are working for various types of vegetables including cucumber, leave onion, bitter melon, cabbage, morning glory, and basella alba. They are in a bid to join up in production and consumption.
Working on organic fertilizer with limitation of pesticides, the vegetables are stably produced and supplied. From May 2011, the products have entered supermarkets. The fruitful results are thanks to 3-rotational planting seasons and the prices are dependent on quality of vegatables.
Comparing to free market, vegetables in supermarkets are 20-30% higher, offering income ranging from VND500,000 to 6.3 million per 1,000 sqm or averagely VND 3.5 million per 1,000 sqm.
According to Mrs. Nguyen Thi Le, Deputy Head of Plant Control in Tan Uyen District, safe vegables create good effects on vegetable planting, hinting on models for other who wants to invest. On daily basis, Co.opMart Binh Duong consumes 80-100 kg of vegetables transported from Uyen Hung.
“Participating into models of safe vegetables, we are supported with seeds, materials and knowledge of production line so as not to harm community health. After transporting to supermarkets we can balance our production; however, we are facing certain difficulties due to instant exploit of land,” said Mr. Nguyen Huu Hien – Group leader of Safe Vegetable Group in Uyen Hung.
Although vegetables in Tan Uyen have reached for supermarkets, their variety is limited, thus, income of planters is still low.
