Vietnamese goods are winning Vietnamese people’s fondness, says Director of provincial Department of Industry and Trade Nguyen Thi Dien

After more than one year of launching the campaign “Vietnamese people give priority to using Vietnamese goods, many people said that Vietnamese goods actually have not dominated the domestic market yet, especially in the rural regions. To know more about this, Binh Duong Daily had an interview with Nguyen Thi Dien, Director of provincial Department of Industry and Trade.

What is your assessment of implementing Binh Duong’s “Vietnamese people give priority to using Vietnamese goods” campaign launched by the Politburo in August 2009?

So far, provincial Fatherland Front Committee and other mass organizations have well realized the campaign “Vietnamese people give priority to using Vietnamese goods”. Many seminars pertaining to the campaign were organized over the past time, contributing to raising awareness of the local customers to Vietnamese goods. The local customers were also equipped with knowledge about how to select and use goods intelligently and effectively. As a result, Vietnamese goods have received more support from the local customers.

Domestic businesses have recently made efforts in researching customers’ taste, launched a series of new products suitable to them. Also, they have well observed the regulations on announcement of the quality on the labels of the products, helping customers feel secure…

Provincial Department of Industry and Trade has also helped provincial People’s Committee realize many programs on promoting trade activities in the domestic market via trade fairs, exhibitions; organizing the program “Bringing Vietnamese goods to the countryside”…Upon the initial successes, I think that Vietnamese goods are winning Vietnamese people’s fondness. The campaign “Vietnamese people give priority to using Vietnamese goods” will bring higher efficiency in the following years.

Rural customers say that there are few Vietnamese goods at traditional markets, so they find difficult to select and buy them. What is your assessment of this?

As surveyed, many Vietnamese goods are now on display at province-based supermarkets and plazas, even they accounts for 90% of total amount of goods at some places. The majority of goods at traditional markets are also Vietnam-made ones.

There is currently a severe competitiveness in prices between Vietnam-made goods and China-made goods. In terms of food hygiene-safety and quality, it is hardly probable that the quality of imported goods is higher than the quality of Vietnamese goods. Hence, customers need to have reasonable selection regarding demand and price when buying goods.

Which measures your department will step up to help rural customers get access to Vietnamese goods?

We are re-organizing retail network in the rural areas and will further promote the campaign “Bringing Vietnamese goods to the countryside”…

 Thanks a lot!
