Viettel in world’s top 20 in terms of subscriber

According to the military-run telecom group Viettel, dated to 3rd quarter of 2010, Wireless Intelligence ranked Viettel as 19th biggest services providers in the world regarding to the number of subscriber.

Following the ranking list, Viettel, so far, has stepped 5 levels as compared to the 2nd quarter of 2010. The runner up in the list is Sprint Nextel from the US. In the ASEAN region, the Vietnam’s leading telecommunications provider improved 1 level, ranking 2/58 while Telkomsel (Telekomunikasi Selular) from Indonesia ranks top.

In the 2nd of 2010, by having 40.6 million subscribers, Viettel ranked 24/772 in world’s telecommunications and mobile services providers.  After 10 years of operation, Viettel is the biggest mobile provider in Vietnam with around 42,200 2G and 3G base transmission stations. Last year, its total turnover reached over 91,000 billion VND, setting up a record of 15,500 billion VND in revenue as well as becoming the leader in growth of the Vietnam’s telecommunication sector.
