The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said Vietnam currently has about 76,666 hectares of organic agricultural production, ranking 7th in Asia and 3rd in ASEAN countries. But considering the total area of agricultural land is 26.8 million ha, the area of organic agricultural production of the whole country is modest.
It is expected that in the fourth quarter of 2019, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development will consult experts and manufacturers to complete the Organic Agriculture Development Project in Vietnam for the period 2020-2030 with a total source of invested capital of VND 36,490 billion. Accordingly, the area of organic crops is about 1.5 - 3% of the total planted area; key products include: Rice, vegetables, fruits, medicinal herbs, coffee, pepper etc. For livestock products, there will be about 400,000 cattle and 20 million poultry produced in an organic manner.
To achieve this goal, the ministry is working with related ministries and agencies to improve the system of legal documents and guidelines on the development of organic agricultural products from production to consumption; have mechanisms to encourage economic sectors, businesses, cooperatives and people to participate in the development of organic agriculture.
