In 2017 alone, the association worked with relevant agencies to open 55 training courses on sci-tech transfer for 550 officials and members; maintained 65 loan-giving groups; disbursed more than VND7.3billion in loan from the local branch of the Bank for Social Policies for 221 members, more than VND5.6billion from 11 loan-rotating groups, creating jobs for more than 1,000 laborers…
The association also upgraded 3 “comrade” houses with a total expense of more than VND48.4million; mobilized officials and members to support more than VND483million for social charity activities. Well-off members of the association also supported more than 2.6 tons of rice, VND126million for needy ones.
With the above support activities, the association last year had 9 and 4 members escaping poverty and near poverty, respectively. As of now, the association has had 1,678 well-off households or 89.11% of total; 181 average households or 9.61% of total; 18 near-poor households or 0.99% of total and 5 poor households or 0.02%. There have been 313 individuals winning the “good veteran in production-business” title.
War veterans being the owners of enterprises, farmsteads
Noticeably, members of Phu Giao district’s War Invalids’ Association has so far set up 8 small and medium-sized enterprises, 1 cooperative group, 60 farmsteads, 296 farmsteads with more than 850 laborers. Among them, there are 8 farmsteads with the annual income of more than VND10billion. Members of the association have also developed a market together with 6 production facilities, generating jobs for hundreds of laborers.
Possibly seeing, the district has had plenty of outstanding collectives and individuals from the movement of “War veterans helping each other in economic development”. They include the War Veterans’ Association branches of An Binh, Tan Hiep, Phuoc Hoa communes and Phuoc Vinh township; Nguyen Huu Van, Tong Anh Pha, Bo Minh Chiem, Nguyen Dang Lieu…
Pham Van Trung, Chairman of Phu Giao district’s War Invalids’ Association said that over the past time, the association promoted the movement of “War veterans helping each other in economic development” among officials and members, actively contributing to the local socio-economic development.
