Binh Duong is seen as a “metropolis” of the country’s woodwork industry. Representative of Binh Duong Furniture Association (BIFA) said that with the monthly growth of more than 18%, export turnover of BIFA’s members this year is likely to surpass the set plan.
High growth
According to Vietnam Timber and Forestry Products’ Association, the country’s export turnover over the past ten months was US$5.54billion. The U.S, Japan and China are still the largest import markets of Vietnamese wooden products. Many other import markets like South Korea, Britain, Australia…also attained high growth at 18%, 12.4%, 9%..., respectively. With such growth momentum, the country’s export turnover this year is likely to obtain US$7.3billion, exceeding U$S300million of the set plan.

Luu Phuoc Loc, Vice-Chairman of BIFA said that as of now, there is no report on the situation of members with the lack of orders. In September, members’ export index decreased slightly, but then it reached a quick recovery. They are urgently promoting their production to fulfill 2016’s orders.
In 2016, BIFA has also made efforts in admitting additional new members. According to Huynh Quanh Thanh, Chairman of BIFA, diversifying members is a very important step for better development. This is because in the common trend, enterprises must consider cooperation to improve their ability in terms of finance, sci-tech for production and consumption.
Whilst, amid worries about Brexit that will affect domestic woodwork industry, enterprises in Binh Duong affirmed that EU is still a potential market. It is predicted that there will be a vigorous growth in terms of timber and wooden products consumption after the EU and Vietnam free trade agreement (FTA) takes effect.
Taking good initiative for integration
Leaders of BIFA said that woodwork enterprises in the province were proactive to learn about the EU-Vietnam FTA right after there was a policy on negotiating the FAT. They also issued processes on timber, wooden products management, purchase and processing…and gave detailed guidance for laborers at factories. Besides, BIFA assisted members to take part in trade fairs, trade promotion programs in and out of the province, visit countries with development in this field…, aiming to enhance their capacity when penetrating into major markets like the U.S, Japan, EU…
Noticeably, a delegation of the German Development Cooperation Agency in collaboration with the Vietnamese Energy Conservation Research-Development Center and BIFA has just worked with 12 woodwork enterprises in the province. At the working session, the delegation focused on analyzing auxiliary systems at these enterprises while changing their hand-held machines by compressed air to the ones by power. The delegation also put forward solutions for them to use energy efficiently and economically, helping them enjoy more benefits.
To Nguyen Liem, CEO of Lam Viet Joint Stock Company in Tan Uyen town, the company is actively learning about advanced production technologies in some countries in the region in order to opportunely upgrade its production system under international standards for better competitiveness.
