Work starts on BOT project to upgrade and expand National Highway 13

Early April 26, provincial People's Committee coordinated with Becamex IDC to organize a ground-breaking ceremony for the project to upgrade and expand National Highway 13 under the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) form.

The event was attended by Nguyen Van Loi, member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of provincial Party Committee, Head of provincial National Assembly Deputy Delegation; Nguyen Hoang Thao, Permanent Vice-Secretary of provincial Party Committee; Nguyen Van Loc, member of provincial Party Standing Committee, Head of provincial Party Committee’s Mass Mobilization, Chairman of provincial Fatherland Front Committee; Pham Van Chanh, member of provincial Party Standing Committee, Chairman of provincial People's Council; members of provincial Party Standing Committee.  

Although it being upgrade to 6 lanes more than 20 years ago, National Highway 13 is now overloaded with traffic jams at the peak time. Once being completed, the project not only meets transportation needs and relieves traffic pressure, but also opens the door for Binh Duong to develop urban areas and attract investment in the coming time. The phase I of the project with the section from Vinh Phu to Ong Bo bridge is 4,875m long; the phase II with the section from Ong Bo bridge to Huu Nghi intersection is 2,868m long; the phase III with the section from Tu Do intersection in Thuan An city to Le Hong Phong intersection in Thu Dau Mot city is 4,898m long. The scale of the project will expand additional 2 lanes on the right side from 12m-18m wide, raising the total number of lanes to 8, with surface width from 39.5 meters to 40.5 meters. On the route, there are 2 overpasses, including an overpass at the Huu Nghi - Binh Hoa intersections with 880m long and 17m wide; an overpass at Hoa Lan intersection with 646m long, 17m wide. The project will also build and expand Tan Phu bridge by 1 unit in the direction from Ho Chi Minh city to Thu Dau Mot city, bringing the total width of the bridge to 40.5meters. Its total construction cost is about VND 1.4trillion.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Nguyen Van Danh, Vice-Chairman of provincial People's Committee acknowledged and spoke highly of close cooperation between departments, sectors, localities and Becamex IDC,  consensus of people and enterprises for the project, especially good coordination in compensation and site clearance. He also emphasized that this is one of the province’s key traffic projects and it’s expected to be completed soon with the best quality. Therefore, the construction unit is required to focus on manpower and equipment to speed up the progress of construction of the project. In the immediate future, it needs to focus on constructing the drainage system to reduce flooding and ensure traffic safety in the upcoming rainy season. Thuan An city continues upholding its sense of responsibility, focusing on completing compensation and site clearance for the remaining sections to hand over the sites of the project to the investor as soon as possible.
