Workers keen to get back to work after the Tet holiday

After the 2014 traditional Tet (Lunar New Year) holiday, workers have been keen to get back to work. Many companies in the province have also faced a shortage of laborers, due to their need for production expansion, but this situation is not serious like previous years.

Most companies in the province, on February 10, got back to work following the Tet holiday. Main road junctions to province-based industrial parks have got crowded with workers.

Nguyen Thi Dieu, a 28-year-old worker at Hoang Gia Cat Tuong Garment Company in TDM city said: “After the Tet holiday, we have returned to the company to work and hope that the company will get more orders in the new year, helping us have more stable jobs”.

Other worker Pham Thi Huyen, 26, from central Ha Tinh province said that she and her husband stayed in Binh Duong thisTet and enjoyed a cozy Tet. She added: “On the first working day of the Lunar New Year, I wish all workers to fulfill their entrusted tasks with high efficiency”.

Vuong Kim Dien, Personnel Manager of Foster Vietnam Electronics Co.Ltd. in the Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park II said that more than 93 per cent of workers returned to work on the eighth day of the Lunar New Year. The figure amounted to nearly 97% on February 10. According to him, this was a positive sign compared to the previous year.

Ensuring stability in workforce

As surveyed, almost all companies in the province, on February 10, resumed business after the Tet holiday.

Companies with thousands of laborers in Thuan An town-based Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP) I in Thuan An town resumed work on the sixth day of the Lunar New Year. There was a shortage of laborers in the VSIP I, due to companies’ need for production expansion. But, 70-80 per cent of workers at many companies in the VSIP I returned to work following the Tet holiday.

Leaders of Kingmaker Footwear Company in the VSIP I said that 80 percent of the company’s workers got back to work after the Tet holiday.

These days, Esquel Garment Vietnam Co.Ltd. also got crowded with job applicants. Among them, many left their old jobs to seek new ones with the hope of having more stable and higher income.

Many other companies in the province are also facing a shortage of laborers after Tet as many laborers quit to seek new and better jobs.

Bui Thanh Nhan, Vice-Chairman of provincial Labor Union said that most companies in the province, as of February 10, resumed business after the Tet holiday. More than 483,000 laborers got back to work or 85 percent of total. Whilst, 85,252 other laborers were still absent. Among them, there were 80% enjoying the Tet holiday in association with the annual leave while the remaining 20% were absent with no reason.

Mr.Nhan also added that province-based companies have stilled faced a shortage of laborers, but this situation was not serious like previous years. According to a preliminary survey of provincial Labor Union, around 300 companies in the province need to recruit more than 37,000 laborers after the Tet holiday.
