Journalism contributes to green economic development

Binh Duong is undergoing a significant transformation aimed at developing a green economy and a circular economy, with sustainability as a core principle. The province is committed to prioritizing environmental health over short-term economic gains. From industrial parks to agricultural and rural areas, many effective and environmentally friendly production models that save resources have been established and promoted. The press plays a vital role in communicating the spirit of green development to the community, supporting the region's journey towards sustainable development.

Together to build a green environment

Mr. Tran Thanh Quang, Head of Environmental Protection Office (Provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment), stated that Binh Duong consistently upholds the principle of not trading environmental quality for economic development. The province is committed to eliminating outdated, polluting technologies and prioritizing investments in clean technology while promoting efficient resource use. This principle has been realized through various green economy projects. Notably, the Lego Group from Denmark has invested in the Lego Factory located in Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park 3, which is the first carbon-neutral factory in Vietnam and operates using renewable energy with zero greenhouse gas emissions. Additionally, the AB InBev Brewery Project in Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park 2-A utilizes solar energy, saving nearly 850,000 kWh of electricity annually.

In agriculture, Binh Duong has established four high-tech agricultural zones. These zones not only produce safe and high-quality products but also help reduce chemical usage and preserve soil and water ecosystems. Implementing farming processes that adhere to VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards is a significant step forward in creating a sustainable agricultural product chain. Furthermore, Binh Duong is making substantial investments in environmental treatment infrastructure. Initiatives such as a compost plant with a capacity of nearly 1,700 tons per day, a 4.6 MW waste-to-energy incineration system, and heat recovery from landfills for electricity generation demonstrate the province's strong commitment to reducing waste pressure and transforming waste into resources.

In addition to policies, investment attraction, and advancements in science and technology, the role of the press and media in promoting and shaping green development thinking cannot be overlooked. Through investigative stories on environmental pollution and reports on green businesses and products, the media serves as a vital partner in raising community awareness and helping to replicate environmental protection models. As part of its development strategy, Binh Duong is continuing to encourage the implementation of circular economic development solutions. In this endeavor, the press and media play a crucial role in translating circular economy concepts from policy into concrete actions within businesses and among citizens.

Promote the role of connection

Every year, on World Environment Day (June 5), the press in Binh Duong becomes a vibrant information bridge, promoting the spirit of green living. Initiatives such as environmental cleanup and tree planting campaigns organized by political and social organizations, as well as plastic waste recycling programs in schools and neighborhoods, are actively covered by the media. The press not only documents these efforts but also highlights exemplary figures such as "green farmers" and "green workers," who contribute to environmental preservation through small daily actions. Images of teachers helping students sort trash or neighborhood leaders encouraging the use of reusable bags instead of plastic ones have become prominent features in the media.

Ms. Truong Thi Thu Thuong, a reporter at Binh Duong Radio and Television Station, shared, "We regularly visit residential areas, cooperatives, and factories to film and interview. When viewers see images of farmers using organic fertilizers or businesses adopting solar energy, they find them relatable and easy to emulate. We take pride in providing people with useful information." Additionally, the press serves as a connection between managers, investors, and the community. Articles addressing issues such as access to green credit and policy mechanisms that do not meet the demands of technological innovation have prompted authorities to make timely adjustments.

Mr. Dang Thanh Quang, a reporter for Binh Duong Newspaper, noted that by reflecting on real-life situations and highlighting polluting behaviors, the press not only raises public awareness but also becomes an effective channel to promote a green lifestyle and sustainable development.

Despite notable achievements, Binh Duong still faces challenges in implementing a circular economic model. According to Department of Agriculture and Environment, most enterprises in the province are small to medium-sized and possess limited technological capabilities and financial resources for investing in green production lines. Additionally, the market for recycled products is not fully developed, and many people are unfamiliar with the concept of a circular economy. In this context, the press continues to play a crucial role in bridging and spreading information. Articles that discuss changes in production and consumption patterns, introduce green initiatives, and highlight supportive policies help raise public awareness. The press acts as a link between policy, businesses, and the community, which is essential for advancing the circular economy and sustainable development.

Ms. Truong Thanh Nga, Deputy Head of Provincial Party Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission, stated, "The green economy and circular economy are essential pathways toward sustainable development. The press and media play a critical role in disseminating policies, raising awareness, monitoring progress, and promoting action across society. The provincial press has discovered and honored initiatives in environmental protection, contributing to the promotion of a circular economy, green growth, and sustainable development."
