Activities show gratitude to national contributors
A number of activities to mark the 67th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs’ Day (July 27, 1947-2014) have been organised across the country to show gratitude to fallen soldiers and people rendering great service to the nation. The Minister emphasised that the Party and State always pay great attention to people who contributed to the revolution by constantly developing and improving priority policies for war invalids, martyrs’ families, and all revolutionary contributors. The same day, Politburo member and Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee visited and presented gifts to two heroic Vietnamese mothers in districts 1 and 3. Also on this occasion, city authorities organised five delegations to visit families of national contributors and held a ceremony to announce the President’s decision to bestow the ‘Vietnamese Heroic Mother’ title on 182 mothers living in the city. Work begins on underground section of Ben Thanh-Suoi Tien railway
The Japanese Shimizu – Maeda joint venture contractors on July 25 broke ground to begin construction of an underground section of the Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien urban railway line in Ho Chi Minh City. Work starts on the Saigon Opera House station (photo: Huu Khoa)The metro line has a length of 1.8 km, connecting the Saigon Opera House and the Ba Son Shipyard with two stations. A bidding package for the construction of the section worth JPY23.17 billion (US$227.5 million) was signed between authorised agencies of Ho Chi Minh City and the Shimizu – Maeda joint venture on July 21. This is the second package of the 19.7km long Ben Thanh-Suoi Tien route to begin construction. According to the Ho Chi Minh City Management Authority for Urban Railway, the first phase of the construction package was to build Saigon Opera House station at the Nguyen Hue - Le Loi intersection. The four-storey underground station will be 190 metres long, 26 metres wide and 40 metres deep, and is scheduled for completion in March 2015. Later, the contractors will begin construction of the 1.8 km underground section from the Saigon Opera House to the Ba Son Shipyard, which is expected to be finished within 56 months. Gratitude houses and gifts offered for privileged people
On July 24, Phu Tho ward People's Committee held a meeting to celebrate the 67th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs' Day (July 27, 1947-2014) with more than 200 deputies who are reps of heroic mothers, martyrs, revolutionary contributors, war invalids and so on. On this occasion, the ward's 3 privileged families were honored and 7 comrades who directly involved in Dien Bien Phu campaign and anti-French resistance war enjoyed gifts. In addition, Phu Tho ward mobilized and donated 245 gifts with the total value of VND38mil and repaired 4 houses for the privileged with the total expense of VND23mil. Meanwhile, Phu Loi ward People's Committee just handed a gratitude house over Vo Thi Cuc in quarter 6, Phu Loi ward. Vo Thi Cuc is a war invalid facing difficulties in accommodation. The repaired house had the total expense of VND44.5mil, VND23mil of which was from the ward Fund for Gratitude Repayment. At the ceremony, Do Thi Thanh Binh in quarter 8, a donor granted essential utensils and an amount of cash of VND500,000 to Cuc. In the July, Phu Loi ward People's Committee offered 365 gifts to privileged people with the total cost of VND25mil and held a get-together for local war invalids and martyrs' relatives.
